WILLIAMS TWP., Pa. -

A Northampton County man is facing assault charges after police say he slapped an officer in the face.

The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Kressman Road in Williams Township.

A state trooper responded to a report of a dispute between neighbors.

When the officer arrived, he found what appeared to be a highly intoxicated Peter Anderson, police said.

According to a police news release:

Anderson, 55, walked out of his home into the street and began yelling obscenities at the neighbor's home.

When the trooper grabbed the man's arm to escort him out of the road, Anderson slapped the trooper in the face, then began walking back toward his house.

The trooper used his electronic immobilization device, and Anderson was taken into custody.

Anderson was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, harassment, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct.

He was taken to the Northampton County Prison after he was unable to post bail.
