A New York City man has been charged with criminal homicide in a deadly shooting outside a bar in Easton.
Easton police and the Northampton County district attorney's office obtained a warrant for the arrest of Miguel Angel Rodriguez on Monday, following a police and Northampton County grand jury investigation.
Damien Robinson, 33, was shot and killed at 12:15 a.m. Feb. 9 2013 outside Eddie G's Downtown Pub at 1 Lehns Court.
Eddie G's has since closed. People who work nearby said they've seen a world of difference in the area since the business shut its doors.
"From that week on, it's been better and better every day. It's great," said Matthew Cochran, one of the owners of Rivals Sports Bar, which is two doors down from where Eddie G's was located in Centre Square. "People were very scared to come down this way."
"You'd walk by, usually it'd be really loud and people swearing and fighting right there in the alley way and that's what we dealt with for months," Cochran added.
He was pleased to hear charges have been filed in the deadly shooting.
He said, "It's nice to know that they're proactive and still trying to clean up the city."
A sign on the window says a pizza and pub business is coming to the Eddie G's spot.
Rodriguez is in the custody of the New York City Department of Corrections for charges unrelated to the Northampton County shootings.
On Feb. 21, Easton police arrested Rodriguez during a drug raid at an apartment in the 500 block of Glendon Avenue. At that time, they identified him as a known gang member. He was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, but police also intended to interview him about the shooting at Eddie G's.
Last November, Rodriguez was charged with attempted homicide for the December 2011 shooting of Eric Edwards in the 1300 block of Washington Street in Easton.
