EASTON, Pa. -

A man assaulted his mother after she spoke to him about getting a job, officials said.

Nicholas Thomas grabbed his mother by the neck and choked her in their apartment at 693 Bushkill St., Easton, at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Thomas' mother was found with bruises on the right side of her neck, and she told police she did not know why her son attacked her, only that it happened after she mentioned something to him about getting a job, officials said.

Thomas told investigators that he was bipolar and went after his mother "because he was tired of her coming after him [and] saying things to him," officials said.

Thomas, 20, was released on charges of assault and harassment and released on $10,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 30.
