No municipal CRIZ awarded in Pennsylvania
A group of Lehigh County municipalities has lost out on a special tax designation, and they're not alone.
Last year, Whitehall Township and Coplay and Catasauqua boroughs applied jointly to be a pilot zone for the municipal City Revitalization and Improvement Zone, or CRIZ.
Now, state officials said no pilot zones will be awarded because the law outlining the CRIZ says a borough or township cannot form a contracting authority.
Bethlehem and Lancaster were recently awarded the CRIZ because cities are allowed to form those authorities.
