No one was injured when an explosion occurred inside the Voltaix manufacturing plant early Monday morning in Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County.
The 3 a.m. incident occurred inside a disilane product filling cabinet in the plant along Demi Road.
The cabinet and surrounding equipment were damaged by the blast.
All operations at the plant have shut down as an internal investigation is conducted, said company spokeswoman Heather Browne, who added there was no apparent environmental release of gas.
Browne said that investigation will determine both the size of the explosion and the type of gas that was going into the cabinet when the explosion occurred.
The company will develop applicable corrective actions, said Browne.
She said the Mount Bethel Volunteer Fire Department responded, but there is no evidence a fire occurred.
She explained a disilane product filling cabinet is an enclosure used during the filling or analysis of gas cylinders.
Voltaix, owned by Air Liquide, is a specialty chemicals manufacturer.
A fire occurred inside the plant in June.
