Northampton County executive, council embroiled in Gracedale legal dispute
Northampton County Executive John Stoffa is continuing the legal battle with county council over transportation services at Gracedale Nursing Home.
Stoffa is challenging a judge's ruling that blocked him from awarding a three-contract to the lowest bidder for non-emergency patient transportation at the nursing home.
Stoffa had awarded the contract to LifeStar, but County Council wanted to stick with the current provider, Nazareth Ambulance.
County Council members have said Nazareth Ambulance has a proven track record, and they are willing to pay $174,000 more for the service.
Stoffa says council has no legal justification in awarding the contract to the higher bidder.
He says LifeStar submitted a bid that would offer an even higher level of service while saving money for the cash-strapped nursing home.
