A Northampton County judge on Wednesday rejected an appeal by a death row inmate convicted of killing a Freemansburg police officer.
George Hitcho Jr., who was sentenced to death last May in the 2011 shooting death of officer Robert Lasso, had been seeking either acquittal or a new trial.
On Wednesday, Court of Common Pleas Judge Anthony Beltrami denied Hitcho's motion.
In his appeal, Hitcho claims he should be charged with involuntary manslaughter since he thought his own life was in danger.
Hitcho was found guilty of first degree murder, for killing Lasso in cold blood on Aug. 11, 2011.
Lasso was shot by Hitcho after being dispatched to Hitcho's Washington Street home to investigate a routine disturbance call.
Hitcho admitted to shooting and killing Freemansburg Police Officer Robert Lasso last August, but he claimed he fired the shot out of fear, not knowing Lasso was a police officer.
