Northbound traffic on Pennsylvania Turnpike was stopped by a Thursday afternoon accident inside the Lehigh Tunnel.

The accident was reported at 2:44 p.m. By 2:48 p.m., turnpike officials reported both northbound lanes were impacted and "all traffic is stopped at this time."

At 4:25 p.m., officials reported the accident scene had been cleared but warned "an area of heavy congestion remains approaching the tunnel. Motorists should expect approximately four-mile delays in this area."

An SUV and a car were involved in the accident, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Poconos Barracks. There was a report of entrapment ,but no information on the status of the individual who was trapped or other injuries.

Also no word yet on what caused the accident.

The tunnel is between the Lehigh Valley and Mahoning Valley interchanges of Interstate 476.

The accident occurred between mileposts 70.1 and 71.2.
