Officials: Man shot in Allentown; elementary schools placed on lockdown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Two elementary schools were placed on lockdown following the shooting of a man in Allentown on Wednesday.

Shots rang out at 8th and Chew streets around 3 p.m., police said.

The man who was shot was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital, but he was expected to survive, said police, who did not release the victim's name.

Central Elementary and McKinley Elementary schools were placed on lockdown at the end of the school day, the Allentown School District said. The lockdown was lifted around 3:30 p.m.
