PEN ARGYL, Pa. -

Nine people were temporarily evacuated from their homes after fire broke out at an apartment building in Pen Argyl Sunday afternoon, according to investigators.

Northampton County officials told 69 News the fire was reported at about 1:30 p.m.  at 104 East Pennsylvania Avenue. Firefighters did see fire showing from the building when they arrived. Residents and some pets were safely evacuated and no serious injuries were reported.

Investigators at the scene said they would have to asses the smoke and water damage to the building before determining if residents could return to their homes.

The fire was under control in about 30 minutes, according to officials at the scene.

The Red Cross said they were assisting two families with food and lodging.
