LOWER MILFORD TWP., Pa. -

A man was arrested Monday night in Lower Milford Twp., Lehigh County after police say he stole guns from a neighboring home, and threatened a police officer who confronted him.

Police told 69 News that the incident began around 5 p.m. when police received a call for an armed person in the 8300 block of Milky Way in the Zionsville section of the township.

Police Chief John Dondero said the armed man, identified as 38-year-old Carlos Nieves of Lower Milford Township, had a loaded handgun and was about to draw the gun on a responding officer.

The officer was able to avoid injury and arrest Nieves, Dondero said.

Police said Nieves had threatened two other individuals in an attempt to get them to steal guns from a neighboring home.

Police searched a vehicle used in the burglary of that home, and found numerous rifles and shotguns, which were all legally registered.

Several police departments, including , Macungie, Coopersburg, Upper Saucon, Salisbury, and State Police Fogelsville, all assisted at the scene.

Nieves was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

As of 12:30 a.m. Tuesday he was at the Lower Milford Police headquarters, awaiting transfer to Lehigh County Prison.
