UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. -

The driver of a flatbed tractor trailer was doing much more than hauling steel beams early Sunday morning, according to Upper Macungie Township police.

Police say the 52-year-old driver was arrested after being seen driving recklessly and throwing beer cans out of his truck cab, but not without first putting up a fight.

Police say it all began around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at the Trexler Truck Plaza where 52-year-old Yury Polyansky of Northampton was seen throwing beer cans out of his truck cab.

Police say they approached the driver when he stopped after hitting a curb near the intersection of Tilghman Street and Ruppsville Road.

Police say that's when he attempted to get away, but was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Police say Polyansky was so drunk he passed out.

He was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, where police say he once again became combative. He remained combative until hospital personnel sedated him, according to police.

Polyansky is charged with DUI and resisting arrest.
