EASTON, Pa. -

A seven-year-old boy's story that a man tried to abduct him on the way to school Tuesday morning has been deemed "not credible" by Easton police and school district officials.

The boy told police the man grabbed him by the backpack and shoulders in the 1100 block of Pine Street around 8:45 a.m., as he was walking to Paxinosa Elementary School at 1221 Northampton Street.

The child said he was able to get away from the suspect by striking him and running to the safety of the school building. The boy said the man's face was bleeding and provided a detailed description of the suspect. He told police the would-be abductor walked away, heading east on Pine Street.

But Easton Area School District officials report that Easton police investigated the child's story and determined it was not credible.  They said police have closed the investigation.
