Preparation priceless when responding to emergencies, event shows
Last week, health care professionals from across Pennsylvania participated in a training event at the federal Centers for Domestic Preparedness in Alabama.
On Friday, participants from Berks County and the Lehigh Valley got to show off what they learned at the Lehigh Valley Hospital's Muhlenberg campus in Bethlehem. The counter-terrorism task force set up a display of preparedness tools.
Participants said the recent bombings at the Boston Marathon underscore the need for this kind of training.
"It really highlighted the value of preparedness training such as this, and also highlighted the need for us to get together as a great community and compare notes to look at resources and really get on the same page when it comes to preparing for large incidents like that," said Chris Chamberlan, emergency preparedness coordinator for St. Joseph Regional Health Network.
More than a dozen regional hospitals, health bureaus and EMS teams participated in the exhibition.
