EASTON, Pa. -

A man choked a woman who was arguing with his girlfriend when a verbal altercation between them turned physical last week, officials said.

Ramone A. Fitzgerald grabbed his neighbor by the throat from behind while she was involved in a dust-up with his girlfriend outside their homes in the 800 block of West Berwick Street in Easton at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, officials said.

The neighbor told police at Easton Hospital that Fitzgerald asked her, "How dare you?" while he was choking her for what seemed like "an eternity," officials said, adding that other neighbors finally pulled Fitzgerald off of the woman.

Fitzgerald, 28, was arraigned Friday night on charges of aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangerment and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 8.
