The Saucon Valley School District Board of Directors approved several personnel appointments during Tuesday night's meeting, including the naming of the district's varsity basketball coach.

Matt Brown scored the job to lead the Panthers on the boys hardwood this season, swishing a paycheck of $6,865 for his efforts. Sean Thomson, Todd Lipp and Don Benner will serve on his staff.

The high school wrestling team also received a new leader for the 2013-2014 season as Chad Shrik pinned the job at the same salary Brown will receive. Don Rohn was approved Tuesday night as Shrik's assistant mat master.

Meanwhile Nancy Harte received the varsity's head cheerleading coach job. She will earn $2,745 to lead the school's spirit.

In addition Tuesday night the board heard a presentation on the results of a program that assists pre-school children prepare for kindergarten. The Summer Academy for Incoming Learning or SAIL addresses the challenges of the district's youngest students make their way from their homes to the district's classroom during seven sessions in July and August. Jim Deegan, the district's supervisor of assessment and instruction, outlined the goals of the program, which are to interact with their peers, develop friendships, become comfortable in a new building, understand instruction and enjoy the process of learning.

Deegan noted that roughly 48 percent of kindergartners were enrolled in the program.

In other business, President Michael Karabin noted a change to the directors' meeting schedule, indicating the business meeting originally scheduled for 7 p.m. on November 12th is being moved to that same time five days earlier, on November 7th.
