Sexually abused exchange student sues Allentown diocese, claims priest failed to notify authorities
A South Korean exchange student who was sexually abused while enrolled at Piux X High School is suing the Diocese of Allentown. The suit claims a priest at the school failed to alert authorities.
The lawsuit comes following the conviction of Richard Kim, who is serving five to 10 years in state prison for sexually abusing the then 14-year-old girl while she was living at ACE Academy USA in Pen Argyl in order to attend Pius X.
Authorities said Kim, while an employee of ACE Academy, repeatedly sexually abused the girl between November 2010 and February 2011.
According to the lawsuit, the student says the priest was informed of the sexual abuse four times during confession, but he did not contact authorities. The priest is listed as a co-defendant in the lawsuit.
The Diocese of Allentown provided the following statement on the matter: "The diocese hasn't seen the lawsuit and as a matter of policy the diocese does not comment on active litigation."
