Some Emmaus residents are being advised to boil water before drinking and cooking with it because of a water main break that occurred at noon in the Lehigh County borough.
The break has been repaired, but it caused a loss of pressure in part of the system.
"As a result, there is an increased chance your water may contain disease-causing organisms," states an advisory issued by the borough.
The advisory applies to residents living in small area on the west side of the town -- Orchid Circle, Stoklea Drive, the 900 and 1000 blocks of Liberty Street, the 300 block of Iroquois Street and at 14 Golf Circle.
Those residents are advised to boil their water before drinking or cooking with it until further notice.
The warning will not be lifted for at least two days, until after testing confirms the water is free of bacteria.
The borough will notify all impacted customers by phone when their water again is safe to use without boiling.
More information is available on the borough's website.
