Just days before Christmas, Sure Fit has had a change of heart by reversing a decision to close its plant in Lower Macungie Township and lay off 75 employees.
Employees were informed of the decision Friday in a memo from Sure Fit's parent company, Focus Products Group International LLC.
According to the memo, a new leadership team at the company determined operations in Lower Macungie were needed to ensure "source quality products, which are delivered to our customers on-time and at a competitive price."
The memo further states that continuing operations in Lower Macungie will "allow us a continued east coast presence and continuity in servicing the Sure Fit customers. As such, the warehouse staff will be retained."
Friday's decision reverses a company announcement back in June that all operations would be ceased at the Lower Macungie plant on Quarry Road, putting 75 people out of work.
All of those layoffs had been scheduled to occur by Feb. 28, 2014.
Sure Fit has been business since 1914.
