BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A suspicious bag forced officials to evacuate students at Freedom High School Monday morning while they checked out its contents.

Bethlehem Area School District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy said a suspicious looking bag was seen in a hallway at the school, and as a precaution, students were evacuated while an investigation took place.

Students were sent to East Hills Middle School and Bethlehem Vo Tech.

Bethlehem police were notified and it was determined that the bag held textbooks.

Roy said some final exams were interrupted because of the evacuation and will be rescheduled.

Roy also said due to Service Electric's internet and phone outage, the school district's website is down, making it difficult for parents to get information.

Calls were made to parents to update them, Roy said.
