A 21-month-old toddler died after being hit by a vehicle in front of her home Wednesday in Lehigh County.
The accident happened in the 4200 block of Mountain Road in Washington Township at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Farrah Munoz was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she was pronounced dead just before 5 p.m., according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim.
State Police say Munoz was struck by a red 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by 33-year-old Daniel L. Watt.
Police said Thursday that the child was playing in the yard and ran out into the road. Her mother chased her, but the child was hit, and the mother was nearly hit too, police said.
Grimm ruled the cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death to be accidental.
State police and the coroner are continuing to investigate the incident.
Neighbor Michelle Allen said drivers often speed in the area.
"The way traffic is on this road, they just fly. There's not one car I ever see going by, going the speed limit. And it's scary," Allen said.
Police haven't said if speeding was a factor in this accident., but an accident reconstruction team is looking into that Thursday.
Allen said she's had worries about her road before.
"I have actually had cars in front of my house…come around the corner, and lose control in the front of my house already," Allen said.
Slatedale's Fire Chief said the number of accidents on that road is about the same as other roads in the area.
Police said Watt is cooperating with investigators and there's no signs alcohol was a factor.
