Two people killed in accident on Route 309 in Lehigh Co.
Two Schuylkill County residents were killed in an accident involving a full-sized van and pickup truck on Route 309 in northern Lehigh County.
The accident occurred at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday on Route 309 on the south side of Blue Mountain, about one half mile south of Gun Club Road, in Lynn Township.
Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Craig Hanzl ruled the deaths accidental. He attributed the cause of death to multiple blunt force trauma.
State police said Roger Jones, 52, of Tamaqua, was driving a pickup truck north on Route 309 when he lost control on the slushy road.
The pickup crossed the center line and hit a van heading north on 309.
Jones, and his passenger, Geraldine Jones, 58, also of Tamaqua, died.
The pickup truck and van came to rest along the southbound side of the road.
The accident is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police and the county coroner's office.
The van driver, identified as Matthew Amey, 29, of Allentown, suffered minor injuries.
