ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Volunteers from a group of homeless advocates spent Monday morning putting together survival kits for the homeless.

A group called the Local Housing Options Team gathered at the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living at 435 Allentown Drive in Allentown to put the kits together.

The volunteers stuffed backpacks full of soap, toilet paper and other personal items that will be handed out to homeless people next month.

"Really personal things that may not seem like a lot but to somebody who has nothing, this can be a really comfortable thing to have," said Bob Wittman.

The items have been collected through the Kits for a Cause Campaign that was launched in September.

Officials say three churches, two service organizations and the employees from the Lehigh and Northampton county government centers participated in the campaign.
