WEST EASTON, Pa. -

A man was found choking his girlfriend after her son heard gasping sounds, said officials  in Northampton County.

Kenneth J. Kondash attacked the woman during an argument in their home in the 200 block of Spring Street in West Easton around 4:30 a.m. Friday, officials said.

The woman told police she could not recall exactly what happened, but that Kondash suddenly grabbed her by the neck during an argument that started after Kondash came home upset and intoxicated, officials said.

The woman's son told police he heard the argument, then gasping noises and his mother calling his name, and when he went to investigate, he found Kondash with his knees on his mom's chest and his hands around her throat, officials said.

Court papers do not give the boy's age.

Kondash fled and was picked up later by Wilson police, officials noted.

Kondash, 39, was arraigned on assault and harassment charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 15
