Learn to make horsehair jewelry

SALISBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

You can learn about the history of horsehair jewelry and make your own bracelet at the Museum of Indian Culture in Salisbury Township.

Horses were a lot more than just a mode of transportation for Native Americans.

Horsehair was used decoratively on war shirts and other clothing, and braided into rope or tack.

It was also made into jewelry, a tradition still carried on today.

Susan Newquist will be teaching a workshop at the Museum of Indian Culture on Saturday, February 4 about making horsehair bracelets.

She's the owner and artist of Red-Tail Designs.

The class is from 10:30 to 12:30 and costs $70 for non-members of the museum (that cost includes all materials).
