Man charged in Washington Street homicide

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Allentown Police have charged a man with criminal homicide in Saturday's fatal shooting on Washington Street.

District Attorney Jim Martin says Gybram Javier Melendez was arrested Saturday night. 

He's facing homicide charges and is currently in Lehigh County Prison. Officials say Melendez shot and killed Carlos Rodriguez Junior in the 700 block of Washington Street around 4:30 Saturday morning.

It was the second shooting death in that area this week. On Wednesday, Police say  27-year-old James Sims was shot in the back in broad daylight in the 700 block of Washington Street.  He later died at the hospital. 

No arrests have been made in that case.
