Man convicted of homicide by vehicle for 2010 accident

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (ORIGINALLY POSTED AT 9:43 AM) -

A man was found guilty of homicide by vehicle late Wednesday night in connection with a 2010 accident.

Police said one of the man's passengers was killed when he was struck by a truck while backing up on the shoulder of a busy highway.

A jury in Lehigh County convicted James York, of Brooklyn, Wednesday night. The verdict was read around 8:30 p.m.

According to police, on July 17, 2010, York was driving a van on I-78, trying to back up on the shoulder when the van was struck by a truck.

After the collision, the van spun and hit a guardrail. Three of the seven passengers in the van were ejected, and seven people wound up going to the hospital.

Valisca Jeremiah, 25, was killed in the crash.

York was convicted of one count of homicide by vehicle, two counts of accidents involving death or personal injury, one count of involuntary manslaughter, eight counts of recklessly endangering another person, and three summary offenses.
