Naheem Adams arraigned in connection with killing of George Jeter in Easton
The suspect in a fatal shooting in Easton last summer has been charged with the crime, officials said.
Naheem Adams was arraigned Tuesday night on a charge of criminal homicide in connection with the death of George Jeter on July 27 in the 1400 block of Butler Street in Easton. He was committed to the Northampton County Prison without bail, according to court documents.
Adams, 20, of 723 Pine St., Easton, was arrested two weeks ago near his mother's apartment in Brooklyn, charged as a fugitive from justice and then extradited to Northampton County, officials said.
Jeter, 28, who was involved in an ongoing beef with Adams, was found dead of a gunshot wound outside a home near 14th and Butler streets shortly after he delivered crack cocaine to a woman who lives there, officials said.
The woman told police that while Jeter was in the home with her, Adams, whom she knew as "Dot," was on her back porch, and that soon after Jeter left through a side door, she heard gunshots and saw Adams running away through her rear window, officials said.
A man also who lives at the Butler Street home told police that after he heard gunshots he opened a door and saw Adams, who told him to get back inside, officials said, adding that the man saw Adams with a semiautomatic handgun in the weeks before the shooting.
Three people identified Adams from photographs, and police used cell phone records to place Adams in the Easton area on the day of Jeter's death, officials said.
A preliminary hearing for Adams is set for 2 p.m. Nov. 19.
