New principal named for William Allen High School
A new man will be at the helm of William Allen High School starting Friday.
Luke Shafnisky has been named principal.
The decision was announced at Thursday night's school board meeting.
Shafnisky was a teacher for 10 years before becoming an assistant principal at Dieruff High School. He was most recently an assistant principal at Allen.
According to district officials, Shafnisky taught biology, anatomy and physiology at William Allen High School from 2001-2011 where he increased the number of students participating in advanced placement science courses and integrated a service-learning component into the advanced science curriculum.
He was Principal in Residence at Louis E. Dieruff High School for the 2011-2012 school year, then held Assistant Principal positions at Louis E. Dieruff High School (2012-2013) and William Allen High School.
Shafnisky holds a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University, and a Master of Science in Educational Development and Strategies from Wilkes University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Muhlenberg College; his Professional Certificate: Secondary Education from Moravian College, and a Certificate in Teacher Leadership from LaSalle University, Philadelphia, PA.
He takes over for Shannon Mayfield, who resigned earlier this year.
