Nursing aide takes pay envelopes for cleaning woman from desk drawer in home, police say
A nursing aide took pay envelopes intended for a cleaning woman from a desk drawer in a home three months ago, officials said.
Lisa Sikes took the envelopes with a total of $408 sometime between Jan. 4 and 9 from a home in the 1500 block of Weyhill Circle, Lower Saucon Twp., Northampton Co., officials said.
The home's owner told police on Jan. 15 that for the last seven years, his cleaning lady takes one of the envelopes from the drawer each week, but when she went to retrieve her envelope on Jan. 10, she found all of the envelopes gone, officials said.
The homeowner recalled that Sikes had been in the residence over the last few months to help his wife on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and had been in and around the desk, officials said.
Sikes denied to police that she took the money and initially agreed to a lie detector test, although she later declined, officials said.
Sikes, 46, of 1328 Pleasant View Road, Lower Milford Twp., Lehigh Co., was arraigned Friday on charges of theft and receiving stolen property and released on $5,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. April 26.
