A police officer didn't plan to be a target while practicing at a gun range Thursday.

But Northampton County officials said the officer was hit by shrapnel while practicing at the Belfast Edelman Sportsman Association, located at 474 Sportsman Club Road in Plainfield Twp. around 10:30 a.m.

There's no word on the extent of the officer's injuries or to which hospital the officer was taken.

The club is located halfway between Wind Gap and Stockertown.
