UPPER NAZARETH TWP., Pa. -

Northampton County officials want to make changes at an intersection that's been deemed dangerous.

But first they need the money to do it.

Thursday officials gathered at the intersection in question in Upper Nazareth Township to talk about a grant the township is pursuing.

The money would help pay for traffic lights and other safety measures at the Route 191 and Friedenstahl Avenue.

"The grant amount total requested by the township is $1,013,000," said Township Supervisor Jim Augustine.

The grant will be awarded in January and will be funded by revenue from local casinos.

Township officials say PennDOT gave the intersection its most severe safety rating.

They say the streets have gotten busier lately due to an uptick in development and school traffic.
