Orasure gets OK for hepatitis C quick test

OraSure gets the okay to market its new rapid test for the hepatitis C virus.
The Food and Drug Administration has granted a waiver to OraSure for its OraQuick HCV Rapid Antibody Test.
This is the first and only FDA-approved rapid test for the detection of antibodies to the hepatiis C virus (HCV).
With this waiver, the test can now be used by more than 180,000 sites in the U.S. to test people who are at risk for hepatitis C or have symptoms of the disease.
OraSure and Merck & Co. have agreed to collaborate on the development and promotion of the OraQuick HCV test.
