PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -

"As a mayor and as my fellow mayors, Sal and John, and all of us across the country we don't get to have debates about the death and destruction in our streets," said Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Easton Mayor Sal Panto and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell headlined a rally outside Senator Toomey's Philly office.

Pennsylvania Senator Toomey is one Republican who is trying to break up a filibuster so gun control can be debated on the Senate floor.

Rendell says Toomey told him he would vote to end a Republican filibuster on the gun control legislation should one happen.

It's unclear if Democrats will get the 60 votes they need to break a filibuster.

Toomey is also working with West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin on a possible compromise legislation on expanded background checks.
