Police Taser man 4 times while investigating attack on his mother
A man is facing charges in connection with an attack on his mother in their home about five weeks ago, officials said.
Mark A. Beers, 45, was arrested for knocking his mother, Louise Beers, to the ground with a chest bump in their home at 769 Nazareth Pike, Lower Nazareth Twp., Northampton Co., just before 1 p.m. Sept. 29, officials said.
Louise Beers said her son attacked her in a hallway after she had returned home and asked him about a large noise she heard coming from his bedroom, officials said.
Police used a Taser four times on Mark Beers after they were called to investigate, officials said.
A shirtless Beers pulled out Taser probes twice after investigators fired them into him when he began yelling and clenching his fists while talking to investigators about the attack, officials said.
Beers was hit a third time with a Taser after fleeing into a bedroom, and when he began fighting with officers trying to handcuff him while he was on the floor, they used the Taser on Beers again, officials said, adding that two knives were later found in Beers' pants pocket.
Beers was taken to the hospital, where he told the medical staff that had stopped taking his medications, officials said.
Louise Beers also was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for a cut on the right side of her head that took 13 staples and five stitches to close, officials said.
Beers was arraigned on Friday on charges of simple and aggravated assault, harassment and resisting arrest and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $3,000 bail, according to court documents
A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 9.
