Police arrest man who claimed girlfriend punched herself in face
A man is facing an assault charge after police didn't buy his explanation that his girlfriend punched herself in the face.
Kenneth George Jr. was arrested Thursday night at his home at 405 E. Wall St., Bethlehem, after police were called to the home for a second time, officials said.
George, 45, punched his girlfriend, Karen Reichard, in the right eye and pulled her hair during an argument, said police, who added that George claimed Reichard punched herself.
Earlier, police were called by George to investigate a report that a woman was out of control and breaking things inside his home, officials said.
The woman, Reichard, was intoxicated and told officers that George was angry because she had thrown a spoon he used for drugs onto the sidewalk and that George had just smoked $800 worth of crack cocaine, police said.
Police left, but a short time later, they traced a 911 call to George's home and heard a man screaming at a woman, officials said.
George answered the door and told them Reichard had unplugged and flipped over a TV he was going to watch, officials said.
George was arraigned on assault and harassment charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3.
