Authorities said they arrested an eight-time convicted felon last month at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem with a stolen handgun they found inside a stolen car.
Antoine A. Johnson faces charges of receiving stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm and prohibited possession of a firearm, all felonies. District Judge Joseph Barner arraigned the 27-year-old Easton man Monday afternoon, setting bail at $100,000.
Bethlehem police responded to the casino about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 5 for a report of someone sitting in a silver Nissan that had been reported stolen. Officers and Pennsylvania State Police assigned to the casino detained the woman in the vehicle.
State police had taken Johnson into custody earlier in the day inside the casino on two outstanding warrants, including one involving the theft of a Nissan. Troopers said they received information Johnson may have been traveling in the Nissan, according to court records.
The woman in the car allegedly told authorities that she had driven Johnson to the casino just prior to his arrest.
Police searched the vehicle and found, among other things, a Kel-Tec 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen in Allentown in July 2014. The gun was found inside a cardboard box, and investigators pulled Johnson's fingerprint from the box, according to records.
A criminal history search revealed Johnson had eight felony convictions in New Jersey from May 2008, March 2010, July 2010 and April 2013. Police said the convictions dealt with drug possession.
Johnson failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Oct. 3.
