PALMER TWP., Pa. -

One local police force is speeding ahead with faster technology.

The Palmer Township police are currently in the process of upgrading from 3G to 4G for their mobile data terminals.  The upgrade will provide the force with a faster transfer of information to the [police] cars and also better access to their remote desktop unit.

4G provides GPS capability and also will allow for all the police data to be held on the remote desktop, which is located at the station. Currently, all the data resides on the mobile data terminals, which is less secure.

The change of speed will also allow the force to save money, being able to utilize cheaper laptops for their fleet of police cars.
