A woman who fled with her two-year-old boy after crashing her car is facing drug and other charges, officials said.
Quiani M. Lopez fled with the child after ramming the front end of her Honda into the rear end of a Volkswagen Jetta in the 100 block of Front Street in Hellertown, Northampton Co., just before 1 p.m. Friday, officials said.
Witnesses told police that Lopez grabbed the child from the rear driver-side seat and ran toward Main and Walnut streets yelling, "My baby! My baby!," officials said.
Lopez and the young boy were found a short time later hiding near the Rails to Trails path, officials said, adding the boy was taken to the hospital for tests and treatment of a bruised forehead.
While searching Lopez's car, police discovered an unattached child car seat, the remains of a marijuana cigarette on the driver-side floor, a small amount of marijuana in the driver-side door, and an "Entourage" blunt on the driver's seat, officials said.
Lopez, 20, of 503 West 4th St., Bethlehem, was arraigned on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, transporting a child under 4 without using a restraint system, leaving the scene of an accident, drug possession, careless driving and operating a vehicle without insurance and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 29.
