Radioactive debris that was taken from the hockey arena site in Allentown has been removed from a local landfill, officials said.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said the debris was dropped off at the Bethlehem Landfill in Lower Saucon Township in January. It contained radium 226, which is a naturally-occurring radioactive substance that isn't dangerous, officials said.
Lower Saucon officials said the debris was removed from the landfill Wednesday. We're told it will be shipped out of state for proper disposal.
