ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

The Salvation Army is getting students "psyched up" for the first day of school.

Students turned out by the hundreds Friday for the Salvation Army's 9th annual back-to-school carnival.

They played games and got their faces painted, and they didn't go home empty-handed.

The Salvation Army gave away more than 500 backpacks crammed with notebooks, pens and pencils.
