ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Senator Pat Toomey was in the Lehigh Valley Monday discussing his efforts to help first-responders.

Toomey was joined at the East Side Fire Station in Allentown by Mayor Ed Pawlowski, and fire chiefs from Allentown, Easton and Bethlehem.

While there he discussed several initiatives he says will help first-responders and improve fire safety.

"One I'm interested in continuing to push is a change in the tax code that will encourage building owners to install fire sprinkler systems," Toomey said.

Senator Toomey also discussed efforts to help local fire departments obtain grants which can be used to buy new equipment or to fund training.
