Serial rapist formally charged with additional crimes
Alleged serial rapist, David Martinez, 20, was formally arrainged Thursday morning with additional criminal charges that have been filed against him. This marks the fifth arraingment charged against Martinez.
In a preliminary hearing held via video with District Judge Joseph Barner, Martinez was charged with rape, indecent assault by forcible compulsion, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and sexual assault for an incident occurring in Freemansburg on January 3. Detective Moses Miller filed the complaint against Martinez.
Martinez has been officially charged with four other accounts of similar criminal activity. Earlier in February, Martinez was charged with two incidents of rape occurring at his residence of 421 Maple St., Bethlehem.
The first two women to accuse Martinez of rape say they met through Facebook; six women have stepped forward in filing charges since. The total bail amount of the past four counts results at $725,000. Judge Barner added $100,000 to his bail amount during the arraignment for the Freemansburg incident.
Judge Barner set a hearing for Martinez on these specific counts for 2:45 p.m. March 4, which may be rescheduled as District Justice Roy A. Manwaring will see Martinez for the collection of charges filed against him.
Martinez is being held at The Northampton County Department of Corrections where he expressed interest in hiring a private attorney.
