Shooting near nightclub has neighbors on edge
An Allentown nightclub with a history of problems is the site of an early morning shooting. It happened just after two Friday morning at Tu Casa Night Club on American Parkway. Neighbors say closing time is when the violence usually ramps up, and now police are on the hunt for a shooter. A large fight outside Tu Casa greeted officers when they arrived. Not long after, two people showed up at a nearby hospital with bullet wounds.
Casey Smith and her two year old daughter Cyiana live around the corner from the shopping center. She says something needs to be done about the violence.
"There's a lot of kids around this neighborhood and for something like that to happen it just puts everybody at risk," shared Smith.
City officials tell 69 News they met with the owners of the club to talk about the problems it was having. Some feel the bar is a nuisance and should be the next one shut down by the city.
"If they're going to have a club they just need to have tight security, and people should be searched and make sure they don't have weapons on them," added Smith.
Last year Tu Casa was the site of dozens of brawls and
shoot outs. In September a man was shot multiple times, a security guard hit by a car and a third person needed stitches for a head wound after a fight spilled into the parking lot.
"I'm actually thinking about moving after I graduate college because Allentown is just getting very crazy, it's just unsafe," Natalie Rodriguez told us at the time.
There have been numerous other arrests and attacks. In January police say a bouncer was killed blocks away by a man he kicked out of the club that night. Neighbors and business in the area say they'd like to see a stronger police presence when the club is open. No arrests have been made in this latest shooting, but police say they've been questioning people.
