State parks offer visitors active way to start new year
Some families got the new year off to an active start by heading to the great outdoors.
The Delaware Canal State Park in Easton sponsored a guided hike Tuesday as part of a national event called First Day Hikes.
State parks all across the country have been participating in the program for 20 years.
Organizers said it is a great way to encourage people to start the year off right by getting outside and doing something active.
"It's great for your health. It's great to get out and see the scenery. It's a great distraction when you've got a lot on your mind and it also is great for your cardiovascular health," said Sarah Berg.
More than 14,000 people participated in the First Day Hikes in Pennsylvania's state parks last year.
