Stolen pipes from vacant Allentown home lead to smelly situation
Stolen pipes have created a smelly situation in an Allentown neighborhood.
Allentown Fire officials said someone stole piping from the basement of a vacant home in the 300 block of 15th Street, and some of that piping provided the route for the home's oil supply.
Some of the oil leaking into the basement floor drain made its way into the storm drain and is headed to the treatment plant, officials said.
All of the proper authorities have been notified of the incident and the homeowners were contacted to fix the leak.
However, the oil is causing an odor in the streets as it makes its way east from 15th Street to the treatment facility.
Officials estimate the odor may last up to 30 hours.
Police said if nearby residents smell something out of the ordinary, the oil is likely the cause, but if they are alarmed they can still call emergency officials.
