ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Some people in Allentown spent the day beating the heat while learning a valuable lesson at the same time.

A family water safety day was held Friday afternoon at Cedar Beach Pool.

Participants learned about CPR, life jackets and boating safety.

Experts also said you should be especially cautious if you're swimming somewhere without a lifeguard.

"The water in the Lehigh, the Delaware, lakes, swimming alone, all very dangerous things to do. Going to quarries, extremely dangerous things to do," said Penny Pantano.

A second family water day will be held July 21 at Jordan Pool.
