Tariq Jahad Yusuf Jackson arrested in armed robbery of convenience store in Forks
A gun-toting thief suspected of robbing a convenience store is now in custody, officials said.
Tariq Jahad Yusuf Jackson was arrested for breaking into Chubby's, 2100 Sullivan Trail, Forks Twp., Northampton Co., at about 4:45 a.m. Thursday, and stealing several credit cards and $500 in cash from the employee's wallet and several packs of Black & Mild cigars worth $8, officials said.
Jackson was hiding behind a dumpster when Bhavna Patel unlocked the door, and after the two went into the store, Jackson forced her to the floor and then demanded that she open a cash register and a safe, said officials, adding that Patel saw Jackson had a sawed-off shotgun.
Court papers did not indicate if Patel opened the register or safe, or if Jackson got any money.
Jackson made Patel leave the store with him and stay in her car as he took off on a bicycle, officials said.
Police tracked down Jackson by viewing store surveillance video and following Jackson's bicycle tire tracks, officials said.
Another Chubby's employee identified Jackson as having bought two packs of Black & Mild cigars and two bottles of St. Ides malt liquor around 10 p.m. Wednesday, officials said
Police obtained a warrant to search Jackson's home at 2305 Jamie Court, Forks Twp., and found a sawed-off shotgun, Patel's wallet without the credit cards and cash, clothing similar to what the robber wore, several bottle of St. Ides malt liquor and a carton of Black & Mild cigars, officials said.
Jackson, 22, was arraigned on charges of robbery, possession of a weapon, assault and reckless endangerment and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $100,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 16.
