Mom accused of abusing son, breaking his bones

COOPERSBURG, Pa. -

A 19-year-old woman was put behind bars Thursday, accused of physically abusing her six-month-old son, prosecutors said.

Chelsie Grant, of Coopersburg, Lehigh Co., was charged with one count of attempted homicide and two counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

According to the criminal complaint, Grant "intentionally, knowingly or recklessly" attempted to kill her son, causing multiple fractures to the baby’s arms and legs.

She also caused bleeding by putting her fingers down the baby’s throat and choked the child until he was unconscious, investigators said.

Grant then gave false information to police in an attempt to implicate another person, prosecutors said.

Grant was committed to the Lehigh County Prison on $200,000 bail.

She's due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 9.
