Wheel of Fortune winner Robyn Martini gives back
A local woman walked away a winner after appearing on Friday night's episode of Wheel of Fortune. For Robyn Martini of Pen Argyl her experience being on the game show was a whirl-wind.
"It was intense," she laughed. "That is the word I would use to describe the whole day."
Back in September Robyn flew to California to be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune. Friday night the episode aired. Friends and supporters packed into Detzi's Tavern in Wind Gap to watch the half an hour show. Robyn had a chance to make Wheel of Fortune history, one contestant on her episode walked away the second biggest winner in show history with $147,000.
"All three people can be a winner so really you're playing against yourself more than other people," explained Robyn.
Even though she won two puzzles, Robyn wasn't the big winner. And she's not 100% happy with her performance.
"I couldn't be myself and it was very hard to relax," shared Robyn. "And when we got to the speed round I just blanked.
Robyn walked away with $3,500, enough to pay for her week in California, a new iPad and iPhone.
"I wish I would have done better."
Robyn turned her Friday night viewing party into a fundraiser for a good cause.
"I have a local friend who started the Wipe Out Cancer Foundation," explained Robyn. "Detzi's Tavern was kind enough to donate 10% of all the food receipts tonight to her Wipe Out Cancer Foundation."
The foundation creates fundraising events for local people battling cancer. By the looks of the packed restaurant, they raised a lot of money. And Robyn is glad for the game show experience.
"I wish I could do it again and redeem myself but your only ever allowed on that show once," she smiled.
